CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx on Tuesday urged any women who have been abused by singer R. Kelly to contact her office, an invitation that comes on the heels of a docuseries about the R & B singer that makes new allegations against him.
R. Kelly, a Chicago native, has long been dogged by allegations of mistreating and abusing women. In Cook County, he was acquitted of child pornography charges in 2008, but a new docuseries, "Surviving R. Kelly," churns up new accusations he has harmed women, including underage girls. On Tuesday, TMZ reported the Fulton County, Georgia District Attorney's Office has opened an investigation.
"I'm here today to encourage victims of sexual assault or domestic violence related to these allegations to please get in touch with our office," Foxx said during a news conference in downtown Chicago.
Foxx said prosecutors cannot pursue charges unless victims and witnesses come forward and work with them.
Speaking about the new allegations, Foxx said, "I was sickened by the allegations, I was sickened as a survivor, I was sickened as a mother, I was sickened as a prosecutor."
Her office has not been in contact with the Fulton County authorities, Foxx said.
An attorney for R. Kelly said allegations against the musician are false, the Associated Press reports. In a phone interview Tuesday evening, Kelly's Chicago attorney Steve Greenberg said the claims are "another round of stories" being used to "fill reality TV time."
