CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A Chicago police officer was hurt Tuesday afternoon on the South Side when his squad car slid on ice and hit a light pole, CPD said.
It was about 1:30 p.m. when the police officer from the 5th District, who was driving south on Woodlawn, hit a patch of ice in the 10600 block.
Police Spokesman Thomas Ahern said the squad car skidded and went into the northbound lanes and then into a light pole.
"Two citizens - that we're grateful for - attempted to help the officer out of the vehicle and sustained minor injuries themselves," he said.
"They were transported to Roseland Hospital, and the officer is reported to be in stable condition and has been transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries."
Ahern said the two citizens had been walking down the street and stayed with the officer until the ambulance came.
