CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago Police say they're in the process of downloading new security camera video from the time of the reported attack on "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett.
Police Spokesman Tom Ahern said the video is from security cameras in Streeterville. The cameras are located around a business near where 35-year-old Jussie Smollett had been walking early Tuesday.
The "footage is being downloaded and reviewed," Ahern said.
Two persons of interest pictured in previously released but murky security video have not been identified, Ahern says.
He says the FBI is assisting Chicago Police in looking into the potential hate crime. The openly gay Smollett told police two men yelled slurs at him, splashed him with a liquid substance and put a rope around his neck during the attack.
On another front, Ahern said the FBI is investigating an alleged threat mailed to Smollett -- a letter with "MAGA" as the return address.
