AURORA (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Three Aurora residents told their stories of surviving COVID-19 on the mayor’s Facebook Live broadcast Wednesday.

One of them, 51-year-old Ron Walker, was in the hospital for 28 days. Ten of those days he was on a ventilator.

He recalled: “I remember seeing a clock on the wall, and it said April 8. And I said, ‘Wow, I missed two birthdays.’

“Because my youngest son was born on the 6th. My oldest son was born on the 2nd.  And then I was like, where have I been? I still was unclear what was going on.”

Walker thinks it’s possible he was exposed to the virus at work, even though he says he tried to sanitize everything.

He says he still has some numbness in his right leg.

After surviving, he has a different perspective on life:

“The things that may have upset me and agitated me — these things don’t even matter any more.”
