CPS Lays Out Contract Offer To Teachers Online

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Lightfoot Administration is going online in hopes of making the case for settling the contract dispute with the Chicago Teachers Union and avoiding a strike.Mayor Lightfoot on Monday said a page on the Chicago Public Schools’ website, titled “Our Offer,” will give the public a chance to see what she says is the generous salary offer CPS has made to the teachers. It also addresses teacher demands for more counselors, nurses and librarians in the schools.

The Teachers Union has demanded that those staffing levels be in the contract, where they could be bargained. The mayor said the promise is where it needs to be, in the budget.

The problem isn’t money, but finding people to fill the jobs, she said.Lightfoot said teachers have not formally responded to the offers made to them.

CTU members last week voted to authorize union leaders to call a strike.
