FBI Searching For Missing 5-Year-Old From Crystal Lake

CRYSTAL LAKE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Police and the FBI are looking for a 5-year-old boy who disappeared Wednesday from northwest suburban Crystal Lake.

Andrew “AJ” Freund was last seen about 9 p.m. in the first block of Dole Avenue, according to a statement from Crystal Lake police.

His parents last saw him when he went to bed, but were unable to find him when they woke up Thursday morning, police said.

Neighbor Janelle Butler, told CBS 2, that police have been going door to door.

"They asked to search our yards, search our driveway. I've got a boat with a cover - anything that they could do," she said.

Andrew is described as a 3-foot-5, 70-pound boy with short, blond hair, police said. He was last seen wearing a blue Mario sweatshirt and black sweatpants.

No AMBER alert has been issued because investigators have been unable to confirm whether an abduction occurred, police said.

The FBI said it was assisting in the investigation at the request of Crystal Lake police
