CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- As the temperature crept up this afternoon, people got out of air conditioned automobiles and "L" cars to sit in the heat at Wrigley Field.

"I've got ice cold water right here. You don't want heat stroke and I don't want to be broke!" called a woman selling water bottles outside the stadium.

However, not everybody was drinking the water. Some got creative and found other ways to cool down and use water.

"I'm just pouring the ice water on my feet," said a woman on Wavelend Avenue. "It cools your whole body off."

The firehouse on Waveland was spraying a mist of water: an instant shower.

Retired Firefighter Lee Yankowski dropped by the firehouse with his 4-year-old granddaughter and remembered what he'd be dealing with on hot days like this.

"Find the air conditioner, that's what we do," one of them said.
