CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Chicago City Council has approved a watered-down moratorium on demolitions along the so-called 606 Trail on the North Side.WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports from City Hall.

Alarmed by rising housing prices along the popular 606 Trail, several aldermen wanted a more than year-long ban on building permits, rezoning and demolitions in the area as officials consider ways to keep housing affordable. But Mayor Lightfoot opposed that. And 26th Ward Alderman Roberto Maldonado said they agreed on a six-month ban on demolitions only.

The diluted version was approved by the council.Maldonado said the moratorium could be extended if no solution is figured out.
