CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The icon of the Virgin Mary that the faithful said was weeping at a Northwest Side parish may soon be taken out of that church, because the diocese wants a closer look.
Metropolitan Nathanael said the Holy Trinity parish priest has agreed to temporary let the diocese have the icon.
It's not as if his Eminence, Metropolitan Nathanael has doubts that the icon was really weeping, he said.
The Metropolitan is leader of the Greek Orthodox diocese, and he just can't say the phenomenon is legitimate, yet.
"We would look at the icon and inspect the icon every day to see if what was observed occurs once again," he said.
He has issues with Holy Trinity and how it handled the situation.
