CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The record cold expected Wednesday has some businesses closing their doors or limiting hours -- that includes dog walkers.
Weather not fit for man nor beast means employees of Out You Go and Chicago Dog Walkers are limiting their services.
General Manager Denise Ardizzone says half of Chicago Dog Walkers' 60 walkers get to clients by bike. In Wednesday’s conditions that will be "impossible,” she said.
They'll have a skeleton crew working, if needed, she said.
Out You Go Owner Lindsay Gray said her business will focus on clients whose owners are out of town or who must go into work, like police or medical staff.
In those cases, she said, walks will be short and limited to the dogs going to the bathroom.
Gray suggests dog owners take shorter, more frequent trips outside to help their pets do their business.
Bundling up pets in sweaters and booties to protect against salt is also advised.
If your dog refuses to go out, it’s time to break out the pee pads.
