(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The DuPage County Board has lifted a 10-year-old ban on video gambling in unincorporated areas of the county.

The board on Tuesday voted 11-6 to lift the ban.

DuPage County Board Vice Chairman Jim Zay opposed video gaming 10 years ago and supports it now.

He said allowing video gaming ends the disadvantage unincorporated businesses have had, compared with nearby businesses in municipalities that allowed it.

Under state law, businesses with liquor licenses are allowed to apply for video gaming licenses for up to six terminals each.

Zay said allowing video gaming in unincorporated areas could generate at least $275,000 a year for the county.
