Durbin: U.S. Women's Soccer Team Should Get Pay Parity With Men

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin said the Women’s World Cup Championship team from the U.S. should be paid as much as male players.

“Without a question,” he said Monday. "To me, they’re more popular than men’s soccer. They play just as good a brand of football.”

There were chants of “Equal Pay” as well as “U-S-A” after the U. S. Women’s National Team won the World Cup for the second time in a row over the weekend. The U.S. shut out the Netherlands 2-0.Durbin also defended the right of some team members to decline a visit to the White House, if such an offer comes. He said that is players’ business and not disrespectful of the presidency.

President Trump on Sunday congratulated the U.S. Women’s Soccer team for their victory.

A parade to honor the team is set for New York City.
