Off-Duty Cop Clocked Doing 120 MPH In 45 Zone, Police Say

Police Lights Night

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- It was late at night and out in the country, but a Kendall County sheriff’s police sergeant has learned that going 75 miles an hour over the speed limit is not all right.

Driving at 120 mph in a 45 mph zone is a guaranteed ticket. That is how fast Yorkville Police say Kendall County Patrol Sergeant Mark Bunting was going.

Nothing was damaged and no one was hurt before Bunting was pulled over in his personal car, at 1:40 a.m. Wednesday, on Illinois 47 between Routes 71 and 126.

He was ticketed for misdemeanor speeding and released on a personal recognizance bond. His car was towed.

An internal investigation is underway, and pending its conclusion, Bunting has been placed on administrative duty.
