
(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The search is on for the gunman who fatally shot an off-duty police officer during a robbery in a Racine, Wisconsin bar Monday night.
Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth says a masked robber pulled a gun at Teezer's Bar and demanded money around 9:45 p.m.
Racine Police Officer John Hetland was in the tavern and attempted to intervene but was shot once as he jumped over the bar to confront the suspect.
Racine Mayor Cory Mason describes Hetland as a mentor and friend to police officers.
Sheriff Beth said the suspect ran off after the shooting.
The FBI and a local business are offering a combined $37,000 reward for information in the case.
