CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The city of Elmhurst has announced plans for a Memorial Day parade, of sorts, as the mayor is telling the Governor plans for "reopening" are unacceptable.
Elmhurst is planning to celebrate Memorial Day with what the city is calling a 2020 Always Remember Memorial Day Convoy, featuring first responder vehicles and preselected special service and military vehicles.
The convoy will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, May and follow a 16-mile route and will pass within a quarter-mile of most homes.
Residents are asked to decorate homes and parkways with flags and ribbons. Ribbons will be available to pick up for a donation from noon to 1 p.m. each day at the Elmhurst American Legion, 310 W. Butterfield Road. Ribbons also can be purchased on the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce website for no-contact home delivery.
This, as the Mayor Steven Morley wrote a letter to Governor Pritzker this week critical of the regional reopening plan. He wrote that Elmhurst and the rest of DuPage County could be reopening in days, not months, and said it is unacceptable that their progress is tied to Chicago and Cook County. Morley calls for a more surgical approach.
