(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Cook County’s emergency management director says he needs help from the public to get the money the county needs to deal with future disasters.

WBBM’s Jim Gudas reports from Orland Park.

Cook County emergency management executive director William Barnes lists just some of the natural disasters Cook County needs federal help to prepare for. They include flooding and harsh winter weather.

That’s why, he said, he’s begun a series of meetings around the county with community leaders, police, firefighters and the public to find out what the main priorities for disaster preparation and prevention are in their areas.

Barnes said he needs that information to convince the federal government to give Cook County millions of dollars to help pay for them.
