(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An online fundraiser has been set up to help a man who is seen in a social-media video being seriously beaten while trying to save a store from burning in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
The mattress store was set ablaze Monday during protest violence in the wake of Jacob Blake's shooting by Kenosha police. It was one of several fires that destroyed local businesses.
The unidentified man who was hurt was identified as an employee in his 70s who tried to help protect the building from vandals.
"He was trying to chase them off with a fire extinguisher," owner Pamela Moniz told Milwaukee TV station FOX6.
In the process, the employee was assaulted and suffered a broken jaw and lacerations, she said.
Three people were shot overnight, two fatally, in Kenosha as the unrest continued. A suspect from Antioch, Illinois was taken into custody, but details about the case were not immediately available.
