Report: Wind Speeds Could Reach 40 MPH, Isolated Tornadoes Possible

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Showers, thunderstorms and heavy winds are expected Tuesday afternoon in the Chicago region.

A period of strong southerly winds are expected Tuesday PM. Gusts of up to 40 to 45 mph are likely at times, especially in the orange shaded areas on the map, with gusts up to 50 mph or higher possible. Flooding could occur in some areas as rain falls beginning in the afternoon through the evening. Wind speeds could reach 40 mph, and isolated tornadoes are possible, AccuWeather reports.

Temperatures are expected to hit the high-80s before the rains arrive. Rain could return Wednesday; temperatures are expected to be cooler.
