CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- FBI agents raided the village halls in southwest suburban McCook and Lyons Thursday, as well as several other locations, as part of an ongoing corruption probe.

These are the latest in a series of federal raids of the offices of government officials in Chicago, the suburbs and Springfield.

While McCook is a tiny suburb in terms of population, the Better Government Association’s director of investigations, John Chase, said a lot of political power is held by its mayor, Jeff Tobolski.

Tobolski is also a Cook County Commissioner.

That clout extends to Lyons, where he says Tobolski has close ties to Mayor Christopher Getty.

Chase points out earlier this week, federal agents raided the offices and home of Illinois state Sen. Martin Sandoval, whose district includes McCook and Lyons. Chase said it’s unclear whether the investigations are related.

On Thursday, Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle said she was saddened to learn about the raid affecting Tobolski but said it's premature to comment.
