(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Criminal charges have been upgraded against a South Elgin woman accused of neglecting animals to the point that some of them died.
It was late last month when authorities in Kane County say they found three dead dogs on the property in South Elgin and took nine dogs away from the home.
Kane County Animal Control says those nine dogs ranged from malnourished to healthy.
On Monday, the sheriff's office said they went back to the property last week with a search warrant and found a bearded dragon — a reptile — and a dog in a neglected condition.
Emily Chesterfield, 27, had been charged with misdemeanors.
She is now charged with a felony count of aggravated animal cruelty, and there's a warrant for her arrest.
