CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Mayoral candidate Bob Fioretti said he would work to undo the city’s financially disastrous lease of its parking meter system – if he’s elected. It’s a more than decade-old issue that still gets some Chicagoans angry.
Fioretti, a former alderman, said there are still grounds to invalidate the 75-year privatization deal struck by Mayor Richard M. Daley. He notes there was a previous legal challenge, but incumbent Rahm Emanuel chose not to join the lawsuit.
Fioretti said there are legal issues that remain unresolved by the courts and he would file a new lawsuit.
Emanuel called the meter deal awful, but said it could not be undone. The lawsuit was settled.
