Plainfield Firefighters Attend Boy's Birthday Party After No One Else Showed Up

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Some southwest suburban firefighters went above and beyond over the weekend and found themselves at a young boy’s birthday party.Plainfield Fire Protection District firefighters showed up Saturday at 7-year-old Dominic’s birthday party at Gym Quest - not because of a fire, but because no other children had shown up to his party.According to Chief Jon Stratton, a firefighter who had been at Gym Quest for another party found out about what happened and asked if something could be done.

Chief Stratton obliged and was among the dozen or so members of the fire department to show up to play with the boy.  

"The guys stepped right up. Probably within 15 minutes, we were still in service and everything, but we had companies over there and we were there for him," he said.Emily Speedy, the general manager of the Gym Quest calls what happened "amazing."
