NAPERVILLE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Naperville firefighters are hoping volunteers will help them provide beds to needy children who are forced to sleep on the floor.

When firefighters go out on calls in Naperville, they see a surprising number of children without a bed to sleep on, said Phil Carmody of Naperville Professional Firefighters for a Cause.

That’s why Naperville firefighters have teamed up with the Sleep in Heavenly Peace charity to build 40 beds and deliver them for needy children, he said.

Volunteers are needed to help build the beds on Saturday Aug. 10 at Naperville Fire Station No. 4.

Donations are also needed to help pay for the beds and other things such as sheets and pillows, he said.
