(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Chicago man who was on supervised release from prison is back behind bars after Lake County authorities say he abducted a toddler from her Marengo home Tuesday morning.

Sgt. Christopher Covelli said Marengo Police issued a regional broadcast around 6:30, informing agencies that 34-year-old Dvino Thomas had abducted the 2-year-old girl after visiting with her mother and getting into an argument.

Covelli said Thomas’ car was spotted in unincorporated Anitoch. After a brief chase through a neighborhood, he was taken into custody while the child was found safe in the back seat.

“Our Warrant’s Deputies are very skillful and very well trained,” Covelli said. “But anytime there’s a child involved in any incident, certainly their awareness and sensitivity is heightened to the situation.”

Thomas was being held in the McHenry County Jail on child-abduction charges.
