CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- With Illinois lawmakers considering a move to legalize marijuana, Cook County's top prosecutor wants to clear the records of those who have a misdemeanor marijuana conviction in their past.
State's Attorney Kim Foxx made the announcement during a lunchtime speech Thursday at the City Club of Chicago.
She said the expungements will help people who can't get jobs or housing because of their prior marijuana convictions.
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker has promised to decriminalize, tax, and regulate the sale of recreational marijuana.
Foxx is calling for a thoughtful approach to legalizing pot.
