CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A fragment purportedly from the crown of thorns worn by Jesus – from a larger relic saved during the fire at Notre Dame Cathedral this week – will be on display at a Chicago church until Friday evening.
St. John Cantius will display the 2 1/2-inch sliver of wood, encased in an elaborate gold vessel, on its altar from 7 p.m. Thursday through 5 p.m. Friday, said Associate Pastor Father Joshua Caswell.
The fire damaged the iconic church's roof and spire, but staff was able to save several treasurers, including the encased Crown of Thorns that the church says was worn by Jesus before his crucifixion.
