NAPERVILLE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Protesters gathered outside a Naperville gas station Wednesday evening after a video showed a worker there urging Hispanic customers to go back to their country.
Carolina Buitron of Woodridge said it all began when her 15-year-old cousin, also born in America, went into the Bucky's Mobil at Washington and Bailey to buy some food.
When two of her aunts and couple of more cousins entered the store, Buitron said, the clerk's anti-immigrant comments continued. The 15-year-old said she told the clerk some of her relatives were visiting from Mexico.
At one point, the clerk says, "ICE will come," a reference to federal immigration-enforcement agents.
While ExxonMobil does not own the Bucky's Mobil, the company released a statement saying it does not tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment, and it takes situations like this very seriously.
Attempts to reach Buchanan Energy, which operates the gas station, have been unsuccessful.
