GOP Lawmakers Call On State Auditor Mautino, House Speaker Madigan To Resign

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Four Illinois Republican lawmakers are demanding that some prominent Democrats resign their posts.Four GOP state representatives stood together demanding the resignations of State Auditor General — and former lawmaker — Frank Mautino and House Speaker Michael Madigan.

The lawmakers, State Representatives Mark Batinick, Tom Morrison, Randy Frese and Margot McDermed, say Madigan should resign because he presides over what they say is a culture of corruption, though they do not accuse him of being corrupt.

"In any organization, leadership sets the culture," Batinick said. "Illinois has a culture of curruption and therefore, leadership needs to change."But, Palatine Representative Morrision said their call for Mautino to step down is because of violations by the former lawmaker's campaign fund, among other things. Mautino's also facing allegations of misusing campaign money.Batinick said he is not suggesting Democrats are corrupt and Republicans are not. But, he says, when Republican lawmakers were accused of wrongdoing, the GOP members acted swiftly.
