CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Governor Pritzker signed a package of legislation designed to protect Illinois' immigrant communities and anti-immigration federal policies today. On the UIC campus, Pritzker signed three bills he said amount to a firewall against what he called President Trump's attacks on Illinois' Immigrant community.
One bill allows undocumented and transgender students to receive MAP grants and other student financial aid, something officials say could help 35,000 additional students. Another bill bans private immigration detention centers in the state.
The other bill prohibits local law enforcement and police to enforce federal immigration laws and policies in lieu of ICE agents.
First, I'm signing a bill that will ban for-profit detention centers in Illinois. We will not allow private entities to profit off of the intolerance of this president.

Celina Villanueva. "We are building trust in local law enforcement."Some local law enforcement has resisted following that particular law, but Pritzker pointedly said they should follow it.
"There are consequences to not followng the law, as you know, he told a cheering crowd.
