(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Historic Graceland Cemetery — the final resting place of Daniel Burnham, Marshall Field and Ernie Banks, among many notables — is closed until further notice because of storm damage last week.
Crews have been working to cut the damaged trees and section off the remains, while the cemetery’s website called the damage “significant” at the 119-acre property.
On the north wall of Graceland, near Montrose and Clark, one large tree fell, along with a utility pole. Iron fencing has been mangled, and even part of the brick wall was damaged.
At a break in the western wall, you can see stacks of logs that have been removed from the cemetery’s interior. The stacks look like something you might see in the Pacific Northwest.
Cemetery management WBBM Newsradio to submit questions in writing because they were so busy.
