(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Green Mill — famous for its jazz and a notorious customer, Al Capone — has sidewalk seating now and music again. Sort of.
The Green Mill was open for about four weeks this summer, but then strict new city rules went into effect and the Uptown jazz venue was silent.
On Thursday, owner Dave Jemilo opened a patio. There was no music, but longtime customers came, anyway.
“You can’t have music outside,” Jemilo explained. “But: I hear a rumor that the joint next door has these big windows that open up all the way, and there’s going to be a band rehearsing in there at 7 o’clock.”
WBBM asked: Is that just by accident or did you have anything to do with it?
“I know nothing. I’m Sergeant Schultz. I know nothing.”
WBBM asked if the band “rehearsals” would be a regular thing.
