CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Chicago woman has made a career out of visiting people in the hospital, and she brings a very special gift.

The hospital is a place you want to leave as quickly as you can, even if you bring some of the comforts of home with you.

Like your own music.

"It's different when there's a human being singing to you. It's like your mom, you know?"

Lisa Bassett is a certified music practitioner at Swedish Covenant Hospital. She goes to patients' rooms and sings.

"Is there something that you'd especially like me to sing?" she asks one patient.

"No," says Bassett, "I love that one."

"Oh, yeah. I do too."

"It's just a reminder," explains Bassett. "That they're a full person. And that they have a life. They have memories. They have loves. They have sadness. … That's why I love this work."
