CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Coronavirus hasn't dented the convention schedule at McCormick Place, but it is top of mind for exhibitors and conventions.

McCormick Place leaders are in contact with state and local health officials to get the latest guidance on the disease.

McCormick Place spokesperson Cynthia McCafferty said cleaning crews are sterilizing all public surfaces with "hospital grade" disinfectant.

"We're increasing the frequency of our cleaning and we will increase focus on our high touch surfaces - doorknobs, handrails, elevators, public furniture, things like that," McCafferty said.

The American College of Cardiology is holding a conference at McCormick Place at the end of the month.

CEO Tim Atteberry said some people opted to participate remotely.

"We've had a few concern. So far fairly limited to attendees coming from China or some of the Southeast Asian countries that have been affected," Atteberry said.

He added that his organization has been in touch with local leaders and McCormick Place in order to get the latest information on the spread of coronavirus.
