CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Ahead of Wednesday’s Chicago City Council meeting, hundreds of people and cars took to the streets outside City Hall in support of a Civilian Police Accountability Council.
Supporters have been pushing for Civilian Police Accountability Council (CPAC) for years, and feel the time is right.
Members of the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression said changes Mayor Lightfoot announced two days ago do not go far enough.
Jasmine, with Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, said they want more than a working group on police use of force that Mayor Lightfoot announced earlier this week - they want complete community control of the Chicago Police Department.
"We want full community control of the police. We want a Democratically-elected police review board, that will not only have full control over use of force, but it will control the CPD budget, it will control other CPD policies. They will be able to hire and fire the [police> superintendent," she said.

June 17, 2020 Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa, 35th Ward, said 18 of his colleagues support CPAC and they are pushing for more.

June 17, 2020 The protest on the plaza of the Thompson Center was joined by a caravan of cars honking their horns that drove around City Hall with signs in their windows demanding police accountability and Civilian Police Accountability Council (CPAC) now.
