CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Police in northwest suburban Huntley are investigating after a resident told them a piece of candy collected by a trick-or-treater on Halloween contained a sewing needle.

Police say the resident contacted them Wednesday about the piece of candy – a small Kit Kat bar with a “large sewing needle inserted in it" – after a child reportedly bit into the item.

“The entry point of the needle was visible on the exterior of the candy wrapper. No one was injured in the incident,” police said in a social media posting Thursday.

The child may have received the candy bar while trick-or-treating, possibly in the Talamore subdivision, police said.

Other details about the circumstances were not disclosed. Police warned residents to carefully inspect all candy children collected during last week’s Halloween trick-or-treating excursions.
