CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- For the third consecutive day, Illinois reported over 40,000 coronavirus tests, setting a new testing record in a 24-hour span.
The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 46,099 tests have been done since Friday, bringing the total tests to 2,212,398.
The department also released new numbers of coronavirus Saturday, announcing 1,276 new cases and 18 deaths, a slight decrease from Friday's numbers that saw 1,384 new cases and 22 deaths.
The positivity rate is still lingering just below 3% at 2.9%, the department said. As of last night, 1,360 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19 and of those, 326 patients were in the ICU and 119 patients were on ventilators.
Illinois case numbers have crept up in recent days and most of them are coming from young adults and teenagers, according to city data.
There are now 160,610 cases, including 7,290 deaths statewide.
