(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Illinois State Police now say the truck driver arrested this week in Iowa does not appear to be a viable suspect in the 1992 murder of college student Tammy Zywicki.

For nearly 30 years, some investigators and armchair investigators believed Zywicki’s killer was a truck driver who stopped on I-80 near LaSalle where she was last seen alive and adducted her. Her body was later found in Missouri.

This week, 58-year-old trucker Clark Perry Baldwin was arrested and charged with the murders of three women. This raised speculation he could be a suspect in Zywicki’s stabbing death.

On Friday, Illinois State Police said: “At this time, Baldwin does not appear to have been involved with the murder of Tammy Zywicki.”

State Police say they remain “committed to pursuing justice for Tammy Zywicki.”
