CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- There are 2,126 new cases of COVID-19 in Illinois pushing the total close to 44,000, many of which have recovered. Fifty-nine more deaths have been reported.
Gov. J.B. Pritzker said more than 13,000 tests have been done within a 24-hour period.
"In terms of the number of COVID-19 patients and assumed COVID-19 patients, in the hospital in any condition whether mild or serious, as of midnight last night that number was 4,595. Of those, 1,267 are in the ICU and 772 of those ICU patients are on ventilators," Pritzker said.
Asked about a video going around on social media of a purported Chicago party in which some people are wearing masks – the governor said he has not seen the video but has gotten word of it. He said police can charge people with reckless conduct but they've discouraged police from doing that believing that most people will do the right thing.
