SPRINGFIELD (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Illinois state senators voted today to elect Sen. Don Harmon, a Democrat from Oak Park, as the chamber's new president, its first new leader in more than a decade.
Harmon's primary opposition was Sen. Kimberly Lightford, the current Illinois Senate majority leader who's a Democrat from Maywood.
The change in leadership comes in the wake of current Senate President John Cullerton's impending retirement.
