Illinois Surpasses 8,000 Coronavirus Deaths As State Reports 11 New Deaths, 1,880 Cases

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Illinois saw 1,880 new coronavirus cases and 11 new deaths Saturday, bringing the total death count to 8,008. 
 
“Today is a solemn day in Illinois as we’ve now lost 8,000 lives to COVID-19,” said Gov. Pritzker in a statement. “As we mourn the family, friends and neighbors who have been taken too soon, let’s do our part to prevent more senseless tragedy. Wear a mask. Watch your distance. Wash your hands. Every action counts.”
 
Only one death was in Cook County, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.
 
The state saw 48,784 tests in the last 24 hours and the seven-day positivity went down to 4.0% from 4.1%. 
 
In Chicago, the positivity rate is at 5.2% and 8,268 daily tests were reported as of Aug. 27. 
 
The city is seeing an average of 350 new cases a day, according to city data. In total, Chicago has seen over 70,000 confirmed cases and over 2,000 deaths. 
 
On Friday, IPDH announced 30 counties are at a warning level and could potentially be subject to greater COVID-19 restrictions.
 
As of last night, 1,563 people statewide were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19.  Of those, 349 patients were in the ICU and 134 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
 
Illinois has now seen 231,363 cases in 102 counties.
