CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A crime fighting K-9 in Lake County, Illinois has struck again.
It began Friday night at a home in Algonquin. Family members told police that 51-year-old Lestek Zujko had opened fire during a domestic dispute and barricaded himself inside before fleeing.
Lake County Police Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that's when Deputy John Forlenza and K-9 Dax joined in the search.
"The incident happened around 11 o'clock in the evening the prior day, so we're talking about six hours that had elapsed, at least, since the offender fled on foot,” Covelli said. “Nonetheless, Dax and Deputy Forlenza developed a track of this individual."
"They're definitely known as one of the best K-9 teams in the region. There's no doubt about that. This is just another very successful ending to an individual that was fleeing a crime scene and another great find by Dax and Deputy Forlenza."
Zujko faces numerous charges, including reckless discharge of a firearm and domestic battery.
