K-Pop Band BTS Opens Pop Up Store In Anticipation Of Soldier Field Shows

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The K-Pop boy band B-T-S opened a pop-up store on State Street near Monroe in preparation for their weekend shows at Soldier Field — and hundreds of people have been waiting in line for a chance to buy merchandise.

"There's an area where you're going to drop your order form off once you're ready to place your order..."

Crowd control on State Street directed the line that wrapped around the corner west on Monroe. Since the store's opening on Thursday, hundreds have been in line at any one time — mostly teenage girls — waiting to buy a shirt or anything related to the boys of BTS.

The store is located at 114 S. State St., the band tweeted, and is open from May 7 to May 13 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. CST.

"You know, they really inspire me in a lot of ways," said an 18-year-old girl waiting in line. "They make me feel better when I'm upset. They've really helped me."

She came from Kalamazoo with her parents. Her father tried to explain the phenomenon.

"They're cute guys, I guess, and the girls love them...  And it kind of goes beyond language because they sing in Korean and Japanese only, but they have an American public that's willing to sell out Solider Field," he said. "So it's pretty incredible."

BTS is here this weekend and will perform two shows at Soldier Field on May 11 and 12. Tickets are still available and are running at $247 on the high end.

The sensational band have blown up recently, having perfomed on SNL, at the Grammys and recently contributed to a song with Halsey. The band made history last year as the first Korean act to hit the U.S. Billboards Chart with their latest album.
