(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Kane County is offering another chance this weekend to recycle many of those household items you’ve sorted in quarantine.

The calls kept coming into the office of Kane’s recycling coordinator, Jennifer Jarland, during quarantine from people looking for ways to get rid of household items in an environmentally responsible way.

Once the county reopened its centers in Batavia and West Dundee, she says the response was overwhelmingly positive. Now, the division is holding its annual recycling event in St. Charles this Saturday for electronics, clothes and books.

Due to social distancing requirements and pent-up demand, Jarland predicts there will be lines during the collection, which runs between 8 a.m. and noon. She encourages people to check the new procedures online before coming.

Residents must stay in their cars, put recyclables in the trunk, bring a mask, put items in bags and prepay for items such as televisions and monitors. Jarland encourages people who are recycling electronics and clothes – but not books – to drop them off during the week instead of waiting until Saturday.

There will be no paper shredding at the event this weekend because of the large number of volunteers required.
