CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- If you're looking to make room in your closet for new holiday gifts, Kane County is now recycling clothing.
Kane County is accepting clothing, sheets, towels and other household fabric donations at the same locations in St. Charles, Batavia, and West Dundee, where they take electronics.
Recycling Coordinator Jennifer Jarland said they take all kinds of used clothing - even underwear - as along as it's clean.
"Even underwear that has been worn is quite alright, you know, you wash it, it's clean," she said.
The free program is a partnership between Kane County's electronics recycler eWorks and the group RewearAble. Both non-profits hire developmentally disabled employees.
The non-profit RewearAble will sort the clothing and send along the clean items.
"They do get redistributed to places that will resell them and/or they go to countries of need, where they are put through their systems," Jarland said.
They are also accepting textiles, such as sheets and towels. Items that are too worn will be turning into cleaning cloths, insulation, or furniture stuffing.
The county's drop-off facilities accept textiles and electronics weekdays at the former jail in Batavia and the Public Works building in West Dundee.
