CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- As a massive gambling-expansion bill comes before the Illinois Senate, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said she's now in support.

The measure approved by the House Saturday would include slot machines at O'Hare and Midway airports, a Chicago casino and legal betting on professional sports.

"I don't want to turn our neighborhoods into a mini Reno, Nevada," Lightfoot said Sunday when asked about the package.

She said she worked with state legislative leaders and Gov. Pritzker to make sure safeguards are in place for Chicago.

"We were worried about sports betting in venues," Lightfoot said. "And so I think we have clarified the city of Chicago is going to have an opportunity to regulate what happens in those sports venues."
