(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Mayor Lori Lightfoot is sounding a note of caution as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notifies cities and states to be prepared to distribute a COVID-19 vaccine by Election Day.
The federal entity has told officials in all 50 states and major cities that a coronavirus vaccine could be ready by the end of October or early November.
Mayor Lightfoot said she's concerned the CDC seems focused on getting a vaccine out to the public before Election Day.
Critics say a rush to distribute a vaccine could obscure potential dangers or side effects. They question whether it is politically motivated.
Lightfoot said she'd be shocked if a vaccine would be ready so soon, and she wants to hear the CDC talk about the results of Phase 3 trials.
