CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Business was booming at a Lincoln Park liquor store Dec. 31, as Chicagoans grabbed their New Year's Eve essentials.

For Ryan Van Port Fleet, those included some beverages he's not quite familiar with.

"I have a Spanish cava and two Spanish roses," he said. "One of our buddies is throwing a six course, Spanish themed meal."

John's shopping cart at the Binny's Beverage Depot on North Marcey was a bit more diverse.

"We need champagne, white wine, red wine, beer, liquor and mixers. We need it all," John said.

That was music to the ears of store General Manager Dan Bernaey.

"This is historically our third busiest day of the retail year," Bernaey said. "The Saturday before Christmas is always the busiest, then Black Friday. We're ready to go to service as many people as possible."

Jared was one of them, carrying enough champagne for all of 2019.

"I'm nervous...but excited," Jared said.

It's the feeling most people get when NYE is around the corner and a trip to the liquor store is overran with people stocking up, especially people you know and might not want to see. Long lines, unknown liquor options, stocked out favorites and more — if you want to laugh with the misery of going to buy alcohol today with others who shared their experiences, this Twitter feed has you covered. Check below for some highlights.

Cancelled a lunch date today so I could go to the liquor store. I mean it is NYE

NYE should be a day off. People have to prepare for the new year. For example, the deep cleaning, mediating, waiting in line at the liquor store
