CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The goal of the "Safe Families for Children" program is to provide the support vulnerable families need to thrive and reduce the risk of neglect or abuse.
Bethany Christian Services Chicago also aims to prevent the foster care system in Chicago from being overwhelmed, said Melissa Dykema, Chicago coordinator of the "Safe Families for Children" program. "As things begin to open up we going to hear from more and more families that are struggling with lack of resources to pay next month's rent, lack of resources to provide food for their kids this summer because we know right now schools are offering meals. We don't know what that will look like, in the summer. So, we're anticipating those needs will increase soon," Dykema explained.
