CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Pierre the cat’s graduation from a no-kill animal shelter program finally happened, even if it took nearly four years.

Pierre held the record of being the longest-term potential adoptee, PAWS Chicago spokesperson Sarah McDonald said.

That ended this week. The woman who called Monday came in that evening to take the senior cat home. She is a veterinarian technician, and her roommate is a veterinarian, so both have experience with special-needs kitties, McDonald said.

“As you can imagine, our volunteers, staff, and many fosters families he spent time with over the years had grown very close to Pierre, so there was not a dry eye in the house when word spread he was getting adopted,” McDonald said in an email. “Some even rushed to our adoption center to say goodbye.”
