CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The City of Chicago is trying to find the owner of a missing monkey.

The capuchin monkey was found in an ambulance garage at 82nd and Princeton on the South Side Wednesday afternoon.

The Chicago Department of Animal Care and Control said it is taking care of the monkey and seeking animal's owner.

Officials want to make sure the owner of the monkey is complying with state and federal laws. With a few exceptions, monkey ownership is illegal in Illinois.

If the city can't find the owner, it will be turned over a to an accredited wildlife refuge.
